The Rolls Royce Phantom 1 was introduced in 1925 and was known at first as the "New Phantom". It was based on the Silver Ghost, with a new 6 cylinder overhead valve engine. This new engine was arranged in 2 blocks of 3 cylinders with a capacity of 7668 cc, and a power output of 108 bhp at 2300 rpm.
The Phantoms like many Rolls Royces of their time were specially made for their customers. This model was made by Hooper and was once owned by Rudyard Kipling.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom was Rolls-Royce's replacement for the original Silver Ghost. Introduced as the 'New Phantom' in 1925, the Phantom had a larger engine than the Silver Ghost. The Phantom MkI was built from 1925 to 1931 in Derby, England, and Springfield, Massachusetts, in the United States. There were several differences in specification between the English and American Phantoms. The car had a 7.7 liter engine. In total, 3512 were built.

The (Y36-1) 1925 Rolls-Royce Phantom 1 joined the range in 1990 and all issues were made in China.

Variations/Rarities: The first version was in dark red and black with dark red (maroon) seats.
It was replaced by the blue and black version which also had maroon seats and minor enhancements to the silver trim which was released in 1992.
Both versions have no rarities.

The dark red model (issue 1) was issued as part of the "Great Motor Cars of the Century" set for North America in the P-type white box with black description of the model.

In 1994 the model was re-run in a darker red body and dark brown seats as part of the "Grand Classics Collection" and packaged in the N2-type box. (The box has a double YY nbr on the end and the Matchbox Collectible name is mentioned on the box)

Comments/Features: The Phantom 1 was originally intended to be the number YY47 as found on the inside of the clear plastic window molding but the Lindt van was released at the Y47 position so the Phantom became the number Y36.
